This lesson is about the life of music composer Frédéric François
Chopin, the various types (genres) of piano music he composed, and their identifying characteristics.
The goal of this lesson is to aid the student in identifying the characteristics
of Chopin's various genres of piano music, to be able to compare pieces of the same genre for similar characteristics,
and to be able to compare and contrast the characteristics of two different genres of Chopin's piano music.
The rationale, or purpose, of this lesson is to create a sense of awareness in the student
of the various characteristics of different genres of music, and to be able to hear and describe identifying characteristics
of specific genres of music. The ultimate goal of this lesson is to develop a discriminating ear
for identifying characteristics of music in general, and to acquire the vocabulary necessary to describe those
characteristics.
